Education?!

I stumble across this when I was browsing for images that speaks about education. I was trying to figure out what does she means by that quote. So why is tolerance the result of education?

From what I see, it is when we are educated we would be able to see the pros and cons and be patient with each other. When we are educated, we would not look at each other as if we are different because all human are the same. We all are born with nothing and we go with nothing. If we are educated, we would learn how to respect each other and not talk about racism and status quo. If we are educated, we should be able to see the pain of other people and their sufferings.

All in all, true education can really change a person!

The journey of lesson planning and simulated teaching....

I thought it was easy doing lesson planning and preparing for simulated teaching but I was proven wrong again this time round because I decided to take it easy. But the consequences was double panicking the night before. LOL..

But thanks to my team mates, we managed to pull everything together and we were able to get things done and we did not have to pull an all nighter. I was thinking of how to write the report and also thinking of how to teach for the lesson the next day. I was thinking what to say and what to do.

But I thanked Mr Fauzi for setting the kind of atmosphere in the class since earlier on where we are free to learn whenever we want to. So the simulated teaching went well and we were able to carry out the whole thing smoothly and in the process edited some steps since time wasn't enough. But after the whole the presentation, we were given good comments and also very constructive comments from our lecturer and also our peers. I was glad that we got good marks and I was glad that we got very constructive remarks.

This quote is very true! After experiencing the simulated teaching process, I learnt about the flaws and my mistakes. From there, I learn to not repeat the mistakes again. I also learnt to improve myself and bring myself to a higher level.

Peer- learning.

Today we were asked to present our instructional materials that we did. We were asked to evaluate other groups also and give comments to help each other. That is some kind of peer learning. It was fun and interesting sessions where we watch how others display their creative masterpiece for us to see.

In the process of presenting....

After presenting, our group were had a group photo. Although there were lots of glitches but we got a chance to improve on it before using it next week.
So look forward for the best performance we can give next week!

Fun Facts about science...

Did you know that there are 206 bones in the adult human body and there are 300 in children (as they grow some of the bones fuse together).
Wow... I got so many bones...

Flea's can jump 130 times higher than their own height. In human terms this is equal to a 6ft. person jumping 780 ft. into the air.
That is why the flea in the hair can jump from head to head. To them is would be easy job... haha.. Better stay FAR FAR FAR away from people who have fleas in their hair.

The most dangerous animal in the world is the common housefly. Because of their habits of visiting animal waste, they transmit more diseases than any other animal.
Horrible...

Snakes are true carnivorous because they eat nothing but other animals. They do not eat any type of plant material.
Eew... One of our lecturer will be scared to hear this.

100 years ago: The first virus was found in both plants and animals.

90 years ago: The Grand Canyon became a national monument & Cellophane is invented.

80 years ago: The food mixer and the domestic refrigerator were invented.

70 years ago: The teletype and PVC (polyvinyl-chloride) were invented.

60 years ago: Otto Hahn discovered nuclear fission by splitting uranium, Teflon was invented.

50 years ago: Velcro was invented.

40 years ago: An all-female population of lizards was discovered in Armenia.

30 years ago: The computer mouse was invented.

20 years ago: First test-tube baby born in England, Pluto’s moon, Charon, discovered.

10 years ago: First patent for a genetically-engineered mouse was issued to Harvard Medical School.

5 years ago: The first successful cloning of human embryo

The smallest bone in the human body is the stapes or stirrup bone located in the middle ear. It is approximately .11 inches (.28 cm) long. Smallest??

The longest cells in the human body are the motor neurons. They can be up to 4.5 feet (1.37 meters) long and run from the lower spinal cord to the big toe.
LONG ONE...

The blue whale can produce sounds up to 188 decibels. This is the loudest sound produced by a living animal and has been detected as far away as 530 miles.
That is how they communicate.

The poison arrow frogs of South and Central America are the most poisonous animals in the world.
I thought it was the scorpion.

A new born blue whale measures 20-26 feet (6.0 - 7.9 meters) long and weighs up to 6,614 pounds (3003 kg).
That is huge...

The human eye blinks an average of 4,200,000 times a year.
That is a lot!

It takes approximately 12 hours for food to entirely digest.
So my dear friends who gets fat easily, try to control how much you eat. Same applies to me. LOL........

Human jaw muscles can generate a force of 200 pounds (90.8 kilograms) on the molars.

wow.. powerful... that is what we get to see in the Guiness books of record where they use they mouth to pull bus and even small plane.

These facts are from this website http://www.hightechscience.org/funfacts.htm
I only took a few of it only. There are lots more. Go and explore and increase your knowledge.

We are in the 21st CENTURY!!!!

21st CENTURY!!!! It is the big word and when this word is mention, people will associate it with a lot, a lot of things! One thing that we learnt was 21st century skills. This is one thing that is very important. They are skills that are needed by learners in order to cope with the globalization.
There are 4 main points that were brought up by lots of researchers.
1. Life and career skills
2. Learning and innovation skills
3. Information, media and technology skills
4. Core subjects and 21st century themes.
And this semester, we are exposed to the technology part. Technology is the main thing and the most 'in' thing in the 21st century. It boast of lots of advantages, hence everywhere the government are trying to make sure that the citizens are following and not falling behind in this aspect. There are lots of different people, groups and researcher that had come out with different curriculum that they think can help to enable the devleopment of 21st century's skills.
They all proposed different teaching and learning instruction and after learning about all of them, I felt it is applicable and every method/ instruction has its pros and cons.
For me, at the end it boils down to whether the students are benefiting out of all the things or changes that we do. Like the most current issue was about the amendments to the standardized test like UPSR and PMR. I felt it is very good and it is also about time that the government change the way they stress on the importance of results but not the real understanding of knowledge and the real meaning of education.
So I am living in the 21st century. I am the techno-savvy generation where everything should be done in a simple yet very techno-based kind of way. Imagine the kids that we are going to teach next time! They will be even more techno-savvy, that is why the quote on life-long learning comes in. We have to continue to upgrade ourselves and never stop learning.
Get over the idea that only children should spend their time in study. Be a student so long as you still have something to learn, and this will mean all your life.

Science Quotes.. Food for thought???

"We know very little, and yet it is astonishing that we know so much, and still more astonishing that so little knowledge can give us so much power.
Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) English philosopher, mathematician."

I came across this quote and I was very inspired and it kinda make me think a lot on this. Based on the researches done, we human are only using 5% of the real capacity of our brain. Imagine that!!! Look at the things around us! There are so many inventions that if we were to catalog every creation, it would be impossible! Don't know how many terabyte of memory would be needed to store the data. It make me realise one thing, not everything is impossible! Nothing is impossible with God. He gave us the ability to use only 5% of our brain and look at the earth right now. It is near to its end already. The earth is already slowly dying. Hence the quote, so little knowledge can give us so much power. Power to build, create and also destroy!
As teacher-to-be, I need to be ready to equip myself with not only the knowledge but also principals and moral values that I can impart into the pupils. I cannot just teach them the knowledge but also how to use the knowledge!
That is the revelation for the day.... What will I learnt tomorrow?

A fun science website for pupils

I found aninteresting website that I like. It would be useful for me to use next time.

It is fun to explore and see the different things available on the web. It is just the start of my journey of discovering.

Linking to real life....

Science is in our daily life.... It is everywhere. There are times where we don't think scientifically and be ignorance of this thing call science. Like in our daily life, we eat lots of different types of food. There are food that is more acidic and some food that are neutral or alkaline. This are all related to science. We cannot just study everything in school yet fail to apply it in life. We know that food that are sour are acidic then people who have gastric problems should avoid taking food that are acidic. I find that some people are so ignorant of simple knowledge such as this and end up rolling on the floor because of gastric pain.
Science is not a subject by itself only. It is link to all kinds of things in life. We need to learn that different stuff works differently and it is good to have the knowledge yet it is even better if we know how to apply the knowledge in our daily life. If not it is a waste studying in school.
There is this quote that I really like... It goes like this:
If you think Education is expensive, try ignorance! Derek Bok
That is really true! For the gastric person, if he knows that it will hurt to eat sourish things then he will try to avoid it then.
If a person knows that touching electrical points with wet hand will get electrical shock then the person will be cautious to wipe the hands dry before proceeding to on the switch or anything else.
The list goes on and on.... So we must learn to apply what we learn to our real life. And never be ignorant and proud!

Science Class In UM

Tuesday 7/7/2009

We are ask to create another blog again... But we also can use the existing one that we had. I do not know whether we can We were asked to blog about something that is educational. So what should I blog about? Today i met some ppl who were asking about what course I was studying. I am studying to be a teacher and da di da di da.... The usual conversation and came the most hot and popular question and the much expected answer.
PPL: 'How long is ur course?'
Me: 6 years.
PPL: 6 YEARS???!!!!
Ya ya.. and then on goes the mundane explanation of the whole course. But I feel it was a great 4 years that had passed. And I learned a lot and I feel I am getting more and more ready to be a teacher.

Today, our science lecturer let us read a lot of stories that have great moral values. At first i wasnt interested but after reading the story I was captivated by the moral value and the joke of the story. It taught me that I need to be a good learner and observer. In life, everyone is a learner and nobody is the smartest or the greatest. That is why I feel that we as human need to continue to learn each and everyday of our lives.
